The Year Almost Ends In The ER

Well, we almost went the entire year without a trip to the ER but alas we didn't quite make it. We were at the annual Cul de Sac New Year's Eve party over at the neighbors house. The adults were downstairs socializing and the kids as usual were upstairs doing what kids do. In the course of doing what kids do it seems as though Zachary's head came in contact rather abruptly with a nightstand which caused a little cut on the back of his head( it was only about 3 cm but boy did it bleed).

Matthew and Shawn came running downstairs with the rest of the kids, Shawn was yelling out "It's bleeding, Zach's bleeding", Matthew said "Zach hit his head". As you would expect all the adults all tried to make it up the stairs at the same time however Angie was in the lead.

When Angie got up to the room Zach was crying and holding his head and obviously injured. She brought him downstairs and two of the neighbors who are EMT's looked him over. We decided that we should take him to the ER and have him checked out. We left the remaining kids and with the neighbors and MeeMaw and headed to the ER.

We got to the ER around 10:30 and were seen immediately, the doctor came in and gave us three options, 1. Do nothing, 2. numb it with needles and then suture, 3. Put in staples. We chose option 3, the doctor cleaned up the wound and then put a staple in. He cried a bit but was a real trooper. The nurse took Zach to get a popsicle and he was fine. When all was said and done we made it back to the party in time to see the ball drop.
